Thursday, June 21st, 2012

The E.K.F. National Championships took place on Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd April, 2012 at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield. The BKA had representatives from the North, Midlands and South of England competing in Kata & Kumite as well as five BKA Referees & Judges Officiating.

For the second year running, BKA Squad member Megan Winstanley from Red Sun Shotokan Karate took a Bronze Medal in the Cadet Female Kata after battling her way through the repecharge.

Out of the five BKA Referees and Judges who were officiating, BKA Chief Referee Peter Bibby was once again selected as a Tatami Manager for both days which involves managing the Tatami and all of the categories that take place on that area as well as carrying out Assessments on prospective England Kata & Kumite Officials. The other four BKA officials were assigned to the other five tatamis and were assessed by some of the finest International Officials in Europe. Once again it was a 100% success rate for the BKA officials. The results of the assessments are as follows:-

Robert Lambe (BKA/Rokakai) – E.K.F. Kumite Judge ‘A’
Geoff Dixon (BKA/Grantham Shotokan) – E.K.F. Kumite Judge ‘B’ / Provisional E.K.F. Kata Judge ‘B’
Alison Hinds (BKA/Red Sun Shotokan) – E.K.F. Kumite Judge ‘B’ / Provisional E.K.F. Kata Judge ‘B’
Gemma Holland (BKA/Red Sun Shotokan) – E.K.F. Kumite Judge ‘B’ / Provisional E.K.F. Kata Judge ‘B’

The BKA Referee Department now has six England officials which is a fantastic achievement. Anyone interested in becoming a Referee or Judge, either at BKA or National Level should contact BKA Chief Referee Peter Bibby on bka.referee@msn.com or 07835 558424
