REFEREE COURSE 3rd MARCH – IMPORTANT
Unfortunately our chief referee Peter Bibby has to attend an international competition over the same weekend and in light of this we have no option but to cancel the referee course. We will notify you as soon as possible when a new date has been arranged.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused. At least it will give people even more time to read up on the new rules.

In light of the recent changes to the WKF Competition Rules, the BKA will be holding a BKA Referee course on Saturday 3rd March, 2012. The course is open to any BKA Member who either wishes to take a BKA Referee/Judge/Table Official Qualification as well as Coaches/Competitors/Parents and anyone who wishes to learn about the World Karate Federation Competition Rules update which was implemented from January 1st, 2012.

The session is free of charge to all BKA members if you just wish to do the training course. However, if you wish to attempt a recognised BKA Qualification, a £10 fee applies to cover the cost of certification from the BKA

Assessments for the following qualifications can be attempted at this course:-

BKA Kumite Referee (Written exam/practical referee assessment)
BKA Kumite Judge (Written exam/practical judge assessment)
BKA Kata Judge (Written exam/Kata practical performance)

Although the Referee Uniform is preferred, it is not essential at this stage so please do not let it deter you from coming along for some free education on the new rules, the opportunity to meet other BKA members and have a bit of fun whilst learning.

BKA Squad Training/Referee Course

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

PLEASE NOTE: Referee course 19th November cancelled- DOES NOT AFFECT SQUAD TRAINING ON 19TH NOVEMBER WHICH WILL STILL GO AHEAD.

At the recent WKF World Junior & Cadet Championships in Malaysia, WKF Congress Approved a new set of Competition Rules which will come into force in 2012. Until I have had chance to go through these amendments with E.K.F. Chief Referee Dale Gamble, there doesn’t seem much point in holding a Referee course on the current rules. Because of this, the B.K.A. Referee Course which was scheduled to be held alongside the B.K.A. Squad Session on November 19th will be cancelled. However, the B.K.A. Squad Session will run as planned.

As soon as I have had chance to go through these new rules in great detail with Dale, I will schedule a B.K.A. Referee Course in the New Year.

VENUE: ROTHWELL, KETTERING,
NORTHANTS
SATURDAY 19th NOVEMBER 2011

BKA Team Session And Referees Course 20th August 2011

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

BKA Team Session And Referees Course
20th August 2011

Although being held in the middle of the August holidays, both the Squad session and the ref’s course were well attended Peter Bibby took the Referees and prepped them for a written test on the WKF competition rules, they then joined the squad for some practical training.

Geoff Dixon, Emma Holland and Alison Hinds then retired to a quite room to take their written exams.

Congratulations to;

  • Geoff Dixon – 94% (47/50)
    -Provisional BKA Kumite Referee
  • Gemma Holland – 82% (41/50)
    – Provisional BKA Kumite Judge
  • Alison Hinds – 80% (40/50)
    – Provisional BKA Kumite Judge

Well done to those passing and also those attending.

The squad and squad hopefuls wee put through an intense session working on the basic techniques required for karate competition Starting with a good a cardio warm up, followed by repetition of techniques using a number system. This was followed by relaxed sparring giving students a chance to practice the number system.

After a little break we had fight offs with referees and judges overseeing the action.

Peter Bibby then ran the squad and referees through WKF Shitei Katas – Jion – Bassi dai – Kanku dai – Seienchin and Seishan.

It is early days for the squad and we are learning all the time, we will be attending a number of national competitions next year (dates to follow) and I will be looking for fighters and students who want to compete in Kata. Those looking to gain a place on the BKA team should attend as many club level competitions as possible to gain experience.
